I have been teaching second grade for six years at Shoesmith Elementary in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the south side of Chicago with Chicago Public Schools. I graduated from Michigan State University in May 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in Mathematics and Geography. I am currently on my school's Instructional Leadership Team and I am the acting Technology Coordinator as well.
I participated in the MSU-WIPRO STEM Fellowship cohort I during the 2014-2015 school year. It was a year-long program that exposes educators to innovative ways of teaching STEM content in their classrooms. My work in this program can be found on my STEM Materials page of this website. Also, completed my Master's in educational technology through Michigan State's MAET program in the summer of 2015. Currently I am working on my Master's in Educational Leadership with a anticipated completion date of Fall 2017. I have a great passion for education and helping children reach that "ah-ha" moment. I have found an amazing love for urban education and I hope to continue my efforts to support children in high need areas. I have dedicated my life to seeking experiences that will contribute to my personal goal of being a well-rounded educator. I have had the wonderful opportunity to study and teach abroad in South Africa. It was truly a life changing experience. I love sports and often enjoy playing soccer and tennis. I have been singing all of my life and I have found a joy in traveling and photography. I would say that I am a very organized and creative person. I am very energetic and am always looking for a challenge. Teaching is a blessing to me. I love the impact I make on my students and how unpredictable each day can be. I am very dedicated to this profession and my students. I am committed to being a lifelong learner to benefit my students and to help them reach their full potential. I hope this site will help you to get to know me as the teacher I take pride in being. Enjoy! |
