CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Instructors: Benjamin Gleason & Dr. Leigh Wolf
This course allowed me to understand the different approaches and practices around conducting research within an educational context. During the course, I chose a topic to research, and wrote a research paper around the topic. Within the paper, I included my learning along the way as it pertained to the course. I research the affects of iPads on student learning. This topic was very meaningful to me as I was implementing 1:1 iPads into my classroom during this time. The research was very helpful and helped focus my implementation on specific strategies that would produce positive growth for my students. You can read through my research here.

CEP 800: Learning in Schools and Other Settings
Instructors: Diana Campbell & Sarah Keenan
This course focused on student learning strategies and misconceptions. Through various readings, videos, and case-studies, I developed a solid understand of how students approach learning in various ways as well as the elements that cause misconceptions within a classroom. The final project within this course was to conduct a interview session with various individuals to assess their understanding and misconceptions around a topic while apply the learned content within the course. My interview topic was, "Why does the Moon change shape?" You can view my video project here.

This course was used to create an online portfolio (the one you are viewing!) to have a central place to showcase my Master's program. This course was designed to include several elements that are important to professionally and personally portray about one's journey through the program. I constructed essays that were reflective and goal-oriented. I updated my current resume, as well as compiled projects from various courses throughout my Master's program. The final product, this online portfolio, is a resources for others to understand who I am as a teacher, and the journey I have taken to as a life-long learner to grow my practice.

I had the unique experience of participating in a STEM Fellowship within my district of Chicago Public Schools. This program was conducted through Michigan State University. Therefore, my credit earned through the fellowship, were used towards the completion of my Master's program. The fellowship was a year-long program that encompassed three STEM courses. These courses were not taught in isolation, but yet, were all cohesively integrated within the year. This fellowship aimed to build STEM leaders within an urban district. Our inaugural cohort consisted of 25 educators within CPS. We met throughout the year to explore, create and share our STEM initiatives within our classrooms and schools. You can view my work completed during the fellowship on my STEM Materials page. This work includes a year-long DreamIT project that was integrated into my classroom, a professional development that I planned and presented around using iPads within a classroom setting, an interview with a STEM author, and created material used during my presentation at the American Educational Research Association Conference. The official courses completed through my fellowship were:
